ISO is the International Organization for Standardization, an international organization that publishes business standards that help businesses around the world to increase productivity and effectiveness in their field or industry.
ISO 9000 is a strand of standards that focusses on aspects of quality management. “The standards provide guidance and tools for companies and organizations who want to ensure that their products and services consistently meet customers requirements and that quality is consistently improved” (www.iso.org).
ISO 9001:2008 is one set of criteria within the ISO 9000 strand that deals with quality management. These standards help companies to manage and improve the quality of their business operations; certifying the quality of the procedures and operations in creating the good or services of the business or organization.
How this works within Cuatro M, is that, as a part of the ISO 9000:2008 Certification, we are required to draw up a business and marketing plan, which map out the course for which the company will produce and distribute its product. Secondly, the certification requires that Cuatro M set very specific objectives and goals for its operation.
As a foundation, to be ISO certified in meeting these goals, Cuatro M must comply with all local and national laws, must calibrate every device used for measurement within production, and must write up specific job descriptions for every employee functioning to achieve the goals and objectives of the company.
Each of these three components better enable Cuatro M to fulfill and improve upon its objectives, and yearly audits, help to ensure that the company is on track with its monitoring of progress. ISO 9001:2008 certification is about identifying where each company is in relation to its goals, and drawing up plans and procedures to exceed or improve upon its progress in reaching those goals.
To help in the monitoring of Cuatro M’s progress, an independent auditing company, certified by ISO, named AENOR, came to Benefiio El Manzano, to meet with staff and observe each component within the certification, checking on the degree to which our yearly goals had been met, and the plan of action to improve upon areas where they had not yet been reached.
Three individuals on behalf of AENOR performed the audit, Wednesday, September 5, 2012, listening and observing graphs, job descriptions, and spread sheets, pertaining to the continued improvement of Cuatro M. After hearing all of the information, they held a final review meeting, and shared their thoughts, while allowing principal members of Cuatro M to share theirs.
They were very pleased, and the yearly review was considered a success. Since Cuatro M was certified in 2011, we will not have to face re-accredidation until 2014, however yearly audits are standard in keeping track of annual progress.
Upon receiving the audit companies final thoughts on the review, Cuatro M will have 30 days to implement a plan for improvement, upon which we will continue in the coming year to consistently meet our goals and objectives.
